Manchester United transfer news LIVE United ‘step up’ Andre Onana interest after new Mason Mount bid

Manchester United are now less than three weeks away from their pre-season opener against arch-rivals Leeds United.

The Reds are scheduled to get their pre-season campaign underway against the Championship outfit in Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday, July 12. It will mark the first of seven friendlies that Erik ten Hag’s side will play ahead of their Premier League campaign getting underway on Monday, August 14.

Both Ten Hag and United’s supporters will be hoping that the club will have made progress with their summer recruitment drive by the time pre-season gets underway. It has been a fairly quiet start to the summer for the Reds, who are yet to complete their first signing of the transfer window.

However, United have tabled a second offer for Chelsea ace Mason Mount. The Reds submitted a new and improved offer for the England international yesterday, understood to be worth up to £50million.

Meanwhile, today marks exactly seven months to the day since the Glazers put United up for sale. The situation remains ongoing and is still no closer to being brought to a close.

United ‘ask to be informed’ of Xavi Simons situation

United have reportedly asked to be kept in the loop regarding the future of Xavi Simons.

The Dutch youngster enjoyed a sensational season with PSV Eindhoven, in which he grabbed 22 goals and notched 12 assists.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain could buy him back for just €6million next month and that United are also interested in a deal.

It seems certain PSG will take up that chance, but he could then be sold for a quick profit if the right offer comes in.

After the completion of the IPL 2023 season, MS Dhoni decided to go under the knife for knee injury that had troubled him almost the entire campaign.

Chennai Super Kings’ chief executive officer, Kasi Viswanathan, has revealed that CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s knee injury was a struggle for him, and yet he never complained about this to anybody. Dhoni didn’t miss a single match in CSK’s IPL 2023 triumph. He led the team from the front and ensured that his team walked away with their fifth IPL title. The former Indian skipper went through knee surgery at the beginning of this month to overcome this issue.

CSK CEO Viswanathan said that during the entire IPL, they never asked MS Dhoni to play if he did not want to. He said that they knew that if Dhoni was unfit, he would have made it clear well in advance.

“We never asked him things like ‘do you want to play or do you want to sit out?’ If he can’t, he would’ve told us straightaway,” Viswanathan said while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.

“We knew it was a struggle for him to play, but his commitment to the team, his leadership and how the team benefits everyone knows. From that perspective, you have to appreciate him,” he said.

“Till the final, he never complained about his knee to anybody. Though everyone knew, and you would’ve seen him struggling while running, he never complained even once. After the final, he said, ‘okay, I’ll have a surgery’. He’s finished his surgery, he’s quite happy, he’s recovering,” Viswanathan added.

After securing their fifth IPL title Dhoni went on to reveal that the title-winning moment would be the “best time”, but instead he vowed to return for “at least” one more season if his body allowed.

There are still nine months left before the next IPL season begins and Dhoni is about to begin his rehab soon after taking the rest of three weeks of post-surgery.

“Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over he’ll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab,” Viswanathan said.

“In Mumbai, after Ruturaj’s wedding [on June 4], I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He’s quite comfortable. He said he’ll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he’s not going to play until January-February. We don’t need to remind him about all that,” Viswanathan said.

Viswanathan also went on to shed some light on what the future holds for Dhoni – if he will continue to play for another season or hang his boots for one final time.

“He knows what to do, how to go about it, so we aren’t going to ask him ‘what are you going to do, how’ etc. He will inform us on his own. Whatever he’s doing, he’ll call first and inform only Mr N Srinivasan, not anyone else. Factually, he’ll be straightforward with him. From him, we’ll get the information that this is what he’s doing. It’s been this way since 2008. That’s how it will continue,” Viswanathan signed off.

Indonesia Open: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Make Pre Quarterfinals; Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Bow Out

Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu roared back to form ousting home favourite Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in straight games in the opening round of the Indonesia Open

Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu roared back to form ousting home favourite Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in straight games in the opening round of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event in Jakarta on Tuesday. The double Olympic medallist and former world champion, who made first round exits from the last two events, took 38 minutes to prevail over her recent nemesis from Indonesia 21-19 21-15 and seal a pre-quarterfinal berth. This was also Sindhu’s first win against Tunjung in her last three games as she had lost to the Indonesian in the Madrid Masters final and Malaysian Masters semifinal earlier this year.

Sindhu, who has slipped to world No 13 in rankings, overcame a stiff challenge in the first game when the local challenger led 9-7 with a crosscourt drop.

Using her height to full advantage, Sindhu snatched the lead 11-10 following three consecutive errors by Tunjung and sealed the first game.

After an edgy start, Sindhu was in full flow in the second game, forcing Tunjung to commit a lot of errors as the Indian finally managed to end her string of losses and extended her overall head-to-head record to 8-2.

Sindhu now faces an even tougher battle as she is next up against third seed Tai Tzu Ying.

The Taiwanese star is on an eight-match winning streak against the Indian and overall leads 18-5 on head-to-head.

It was a winning start for the in-form shuttler HS Prannoy too as he prevailed over Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-16 21-14 in 50 minutes.

The seventh-seeded Indian, who claimed the Malaysia Masters Super 300 title last month, next faces NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong in the round of 16.

Indian women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand crashed out in the opening round, going down to Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist duo squandered their lead in the opening game to go down 22-20 12-21 16-21 in a one-hour 12 minutes fight.

CWG Birmingham 2022 champion and world No 5 men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Ranikreddy and Chirag Shetty begin their campaign against Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in the opening round.

Lionel Messi “Didn’t Get Respect He Deserved”: Kylian Mbappe On World Cup Winner’s Sour PSG Exit

Lionel Messi signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Inter Miami on a three-year contract earlier this month.

Paris Saint-Germain star striker Kylian Mbappe feels Lionel Messi didn’t get the respect he deserved during his two-year spell at the French club. The former Barcelona star, who joined PSG as a free agent in the summer of 2021, signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Inter Miami on a three-year contract earlier this month. The 35-year-old led Argentina to their first World Cup title in 36 years at the Qatar showpiece last year. However, he couldn’t replicate his form for the French champions during the recently-concluded Champions League campaign.

For months, Messi was targetted and abused by the club’s hardline fanbase. With his future at the call also uncertain, following talks of a move to Real Madrid, Mbappe has slammed the treatment of Messi during his time at the club.

“He’s one of greatest player in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves. Personally, I don’t understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone. We are talking about Messi. He needs to be respected, and instead he didn’t get the respect he deserved in France. It’s a shame, but that’s how it happened. We will have to do what we can to replace him,” Mbappe told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

According to a report, Mbappe has told PSG that he would not be taking up an option to extend his contract by one year beyond 2024.

Mbappe’s confirmation by letter comes a little over a year since he snubbed Real Madrid by signing a surprise extension to his contract to remain at the French champions.

Lord’s, Oval, Headingley Among Five Centers For India Tests During 2025 Tour Of England

The hallowed Lord’s, iconic Oval, seamer-friendly Headingley are among the five centers where Indian cricket team will play its Test matches during its 2025 tour

The hallowed Lord’s, iconic Oval, seamer-friendly Headingley are among the five centers where Indian cricket team will play its Test matches during its 2025 tour, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday. The ECB announced its home calendar for the seven-year cycle between 2025-2031 involving its men’s and women’s teams. According to the ICC FTP, India are set to tour England for five Tests in June 2025 and ECB said in a release that these matches will be played at Lord’s, The Oval (both in London), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Headingley (Leeds) and the Old Trafford (Manchester) for the Pataudi Trophy.

The Rose Bowl in Southampton, where India lost the first World Test Championship final to New Zealand two years ago, replaces Headingley as a venue for the series in 2029, while the other four venues — Lord’s, The Oval, Edgbaston and Old Trafford — remain the same.

By announcing arrangements for the next seven years, we are also giving venues long-term certainty so that they can invest sustainably into stadium improvements and improved fan experiences,” said Richard Gould, ECB CEO.

India are the only side apart from Australia against whom England play five Tests in a series, both home and away.

England’s next tour of India will be in January 2024 for a five-Test affair, which will be played for the Anthony de Mello Trophy.

India and England have been playing five matches in a Test series since 2014, with the exception of England’s tour of India 2020-21 when one Test was reduced to accommodate limited-overs series, which was postponed due to the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
